We specifically chose the Royal Delfin because it was the largest boat we could see. This makes life really easy when you have a 1 year old child with you in a buggy. The boat is a Catamaran and can hold approx 250 passengers. The downstairs area is kitted out in leather (easy to clean) and has large seating areas. Our group of 6 Adults 2 Children had plently of room for all our bits and pieces. You can watch through a glass bottom or of course, catch some rays on the upper deck.
The Trip
Once on board you head out west toward Los Gigantess staying quite close to the shore as you sail toward the Bay of Masca and this takes about 1 hour or so. On the way you get a wee nibble to eat and you have soft drinks, beer and sangria in plentiful supply. Pouring the drinks is an art form in itself and a good laugh until you get the hang of it. Once you reach the Bay of Masca the boat will drop anchor and you will have the opportunity to jump into the bay for a swim with the fish. I was petrified of getting in (chicken me) but did and was really glad as this is something I have always wanted to do. I swan along the side of the boat so everyone could see me through the glass bottom. Once back on board your meal is served before heading off on the dolphin and whale hunt. Within 5 minutes we had approached a pod of dolphins and they played around the boat for a good while before we headed off in search of whales. Whilst heading off it’s good to be at the back of the boat as you will see the dolphins “surf” the waves created by the boat and get some great pictures for the album.
We headed further offshore and closer to the island of La Gomera before finding the whales and as they are really inquisitive the came right up to the boat and made for fantastic viewing from both the decks and the glass bottom. Heading back to the port now we were pleasantly surprised to be told the captain was giving everyone champagne and putting on some music. A great end to a brilliant afternoon we arrived back in Puerto Colon a 18.00
The Food
On board we were served a small roll/bun with salami in it on the way out to Masca. The lunch provided was excellent. We had Potato Salad, a great Spanish salad and Spanish meatballs in tomato sauce and this was followed by some fruit and was eaten by us all.
General
Stay at the back of the boat if you are feeling woosy or a bit sick as the back does not bob around too much. Take your swimming gear for the dip and if you have a snorkel mask take this also as there are loads of fish in The Bay of Masca.
Value for Money
Excellent VFM and the trip far exceeded our expectations. This was the extended 4 hour trip and is highly recommended.
