Fab Restaurant

I visited this place in June on recommedation from a friend and it did not dissappoint. Joined by my daughters, we had a great meal here and the service was excellent.

Starters were preceded by nibbles on the table;olives, mini-guerkin with a cream dip, and warm bread.

My first course was a delicious seafood puttanessca which was served with warm, just out the oven, bread. The seafood; large prawns, clams, musscles, squid, and chunky peices of local fish were served in a sauce which can only be described as yummy. The tomato-based sauce was both sweet and sour with a kick of fresh garlic, basil and corriander. To be honest this dish would go perfectly as a Main Course! Nonetheless, it was terrific and was washed down with a crisp class of chilled white wine (I cannot remember the grape, but it was one of the spanish wines). The balance between the wine and the seafood and that amazing sauce made me eager to sample the main course.

For the mains all three of us decided to have the fillet steak rossini. The steaks were amazing, real piece of beef fillet, cooked as required and was accompanied by foi gras, which I enjoyed, but my daughters did not like the texture which is normal for them. Figs and a skewer of root vegetables were the other veg of choice and were cooked just right, and drizzled with a tasteful balsamic dressing. We ordered a side of potato gratin which was lovely and moist, topped with melted cheese.

Having decided on fillet steak I was wondering whether there was a good Shiraz to go with the meal. Or perhaps a Barolo, Little Italy and all that.. Anyway I decided to go on the recommendation of the waiter and went with a 2003 Rioja Reserva, which turned out to be a good choice. At times it did not feel like I was drinking as the wine ran over the top of my pallette, complementing the steak dish perfectly.

For dessert the girls plumped for a good old fashioned banana boat. Ok, I had some too!! But it looked too good not to try it...

I finished this lovely meal with an espresso and even had the staff take some photos of the girls and I to take away with us our memories of a great meal in a great restaurant. Try it!!
